'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Pool Miss Out On Torres? No, Not THAT Torres!

In a surprise news story, Sky Sports are reporting that the Seasiders have failed to sign Panama international defender Roman Torres from Columbian side La Equidad.

With the Seasiders now having an international licence to sign players from abroad, everyone knew that boss Ian Holloway would be scouting around for the very best deals, but I don't think that anyone expected him to make moves for a Panama player playing in Columbia!

According to Sky, Torres is set on a dream move to England and may now move to 'Pool's promotion rivals Swansea City instead.

Apparently Torres was voted as the best defender in South America in 2008 and is seen as another hidden gem, and certain to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Wilson Palacios and Antonio Valencia.

Sky suggest that Torres is relatively unknown outside his homeland (I'd certainly not heard of him before today!), but that he has offers on the table from several clubs across South America who are set to play in the Copa Libertadores. His current club have also offered him an improved three year contract apparently.

A spokesman for his current employers said:

'Roman knows of the interest in England and would love to play there or Spain but with the new season about to start, he wants his future settled soon.

'He's still only 23 and has many years ahead of him, if the move to Europe doesn't happen this season, I'm sure it will in the next year or two.'

With Ollie in charge, perhaps we'd better get used to being linked to such players!
