Oyston's South Stand Pledge
With the South Stand showing no immediate signs of being opened despite assurances and counter assurances, chairman Karl Oyston has now revealed that he hopes the £7 million structure, which will be named after Jimmy Armfield, will be open by the end of this month (that's January for those of you who have begun the new year and decade in a haze!).
I feel that I don't need to go into the history surrounding the stand at this point as everyone is all too aware of it. Needless to say however, that I'll be amazed if the stand is open by the end of the month given it's potted history.
In an interview with the Blackpool Gazette, Oyston stated:
'There has been a bit of change in the design to incorporate the supporters' bar in a better way than it had originally been designed. That's taking us a little bit longer.
'I would think it will be open towards the end of January, that will be the soonest.'
Quite why the chairman has waited until now to explain these delays... oh no, hang on, this is Karl Oyston we're talking about. Hardly a master of PR is he? Pitch covers (cough).
Let's hope for Jimmy Armfield's sake that the stand is open sooner rather than later.
