Blackpool Retained List: Shock Depature

Influential midfielder Claus Jorgensen has left Blackpool today, along with seven other players from the first team squad.

The 33-year-old is joined on the free transfer heap by Jermaine Wright, Stuart Green, Marlon Broomes, Ashton Bayliss, Matty Kay and Francesco Carratta.

Jorgensen played 100 times for The Seasiders, including 30 games last term, and is likely to ply his trade in Denmark next season, and his depature hasn't come as a shock to all, who knew about his situation weeks ago.

However, it is still a big decision to let such a used and well-liked played go.

As for the rest, it remains to be seen where they end up. Marlon Broomes is perhaps thought to be joining Crewe Alexandra.

But it remains to be seen where Wright and Green will play next campaign. Both hailed as major signings in the last year, neither has made over five appearances for 'Pool in their spell at the seaside.

There is good news for some squad members though. Danny Coid and Brett Ormerod are still in discussions with the management over new deals, and youngster Danny Mitchley has had his one year option taken up.

With David Fox leaving for Colchester United last week, it leaves Ian Holloway's side very short on midfield cover, with just one central player in there contracted to the club - Keith Southern.

It also means another pre season of constant signings, and the manager will be hoping to add at least two in the middle areas to bolster the squad.
