Oyston: Ollie To Develop Youngsters

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has backed new manager Ian Holloway to reinvigorate the youth team side of the club.

Speaking to the Blackpool Gazette, Oyston said:

'He has a track record of developing younger players and bringing in players who then go on to do well either for the club or on at a higher level.

'I think that's important to really reintroduce that link because I think we've lost that this last few years.

'We've not found players with good potential and then developed them.

'We've actually just brought players in that we know can do a job and I think we need to start to do a bit of both.

'When I say that I'm talking primarily about the youth team but also players from the lower leagues who we should spot and bring here.

'The youth side of this club has not produced anything for a number of years, which is obviously a big deficiency for a club like this.

'And we also don't tend to pick up players like Alex Baptiste, who is a very good example, from lower down the leagues.'

'He has developed and done very well, fantastically well, and we need to do that with more players.'
