'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Baptiste 'Delighted' at Blackpool

Alex John-Baptiste, whatever you may think, has been the buy of the season at Bloomfield Road, and today cooled talk of any player of the year awards.

The 23-year-old defender, who signed for The Seasiders for just £30,000 from Mansfield in July, has only played 15 games for 'Pool in his debut year, but in those he has been a stand out performer in each.

Despite talk of him picking up any player of the season awards in May, for the moment AJB is concentrating on his football.

'It is a nice compliment and I am delighted with people mentioning my name,

'Now I am playing every week so I am obviously delighted. I am just trying to keep Blackpool in the Championship.'
said the young defender.

And there is no doubt in his mind who should be picking up the player of the season awards.

'I think Shaun Barker has been brilliant this year.

'He talks to me and helps me during games and I think he has been in great form lately. He is class to play with so he'd get my vote.'

A personal opinion of mine is that Baptiste has been the find of the season not only at Blackpool but for the whole of the Championship, and has probably seen his stock rise by a factor of ten in just three months. If he keeps that up, who knows how much he could be worth in two years time!
