'Pool Sign Pilgrims' Midfielder

Blackpool have signed Plymouth midfielder Simon Walton on loan until the end of the season.

However, he won't make his seaside debut until at least the Lancashire derby at Preston in two weeks time, because his parent club Argyle travel to Blackpool next week, and Walton won't be involved for that one.

The 21-year-old, who is predominantly a defensive midfielder, has played 12 times for Argyle this term after his summer move from QPR, where he joined Paul Sturrock's men for a reported £750,000.

The deal seems a strange one - not least because of the two club's positions in the league, but also all the noises coming out of Bloomfield Road this week is that they're still pursuing that elusive striker.

The amount of midfield cover The Seasiders now have is astonishing; Keith Southern, Charlie Adam, David Fox, Alan Mahon, Claus Jorgensen, Cesc Carratta and Jermaine Wright are all fit and able to play in the middle of the park, so another man in there does seem odd - unless the deal was to move along any possible transfer in the summer.

However, Walton would cost 'Pool a large chunk in transfer fees, as he's under contract at Home Park for three more years after this campaign.

Plymouth have also let former Blackpool loanee Graham Stack go out on loan. The goalkeeper has joined Wolves for the remainder of the season.
