On the pitch

Two away games brought Blackpool an excellent four points to steer us further clear of trouble.

The Seasiders battled to a 2-2 draw at Sheffield United on Tuesday. Danny Coid`s own goal was cancelled out by a debut goal from Nick Blackman just before half time. DJ Campbell fired Pool into the lead only for David Cotterill to equalise from the spot midway through the second half.

Yesterday debutant Wade Small's stunning volley secured three points against Barnsley and Pool's first league success at Oakwell for more than 70 years.

Sadly the reserves couldn't match those performances as they went down 6-1 to Carlisle's second string at Bloomfield Road on Wednesday. Jermaine Wright got another run-out as he continues his battle back to fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Jake Hobbs scored Pool`s consolation goal.

Off the pitch

Blackpool`s final match of the season at Swansea will now kick-off at 1.15pm on Sunday 3 May. All Championship games will start at that same time as the season concludes.

Transfer news

Sheffield Wednesday winger Wade Small has signed for Pool on loan for a month. The 25-year-old made an immediate impression for his new side scoring the winner at Barnsley yesterday.

Meanwhile Graeme Owens will stay at the seaside until April 10. The winger, who has made seven appearances for Pool, will be available for the games against Southampton and Plymouth.

Moving back out of Bloomfield Road is Marlon Broomes who has moved back to Crewe on loan until May. The defender had briefly returned to the seaside last week as cover. But Tony Parkes has let Broomes go back to Gresty Road to aid the Alex` survival hopes. This surely signals that Broomes` long-term future lies away from Bloomfield Road.

A potential new recruit for Pool could be Burnley's Alan Mahon. Tony Parkes has confirmed talks have taken place between both clubs and the player. Mahon could sign on loan for Blackpool next week.

Injury concerns

Roy O`Donovan has had his appendix removed. The 23-year-old was due to play at Sheffield United but had to pull out at the last minute after complaining of feeling unwell. He had appendicitis and so had his appendix removed in hospital the following day.

Elsewhere, Gary Taylor-Fletcher has knee ligament damage which could rule him out for a few weeks. And Danny Coid limped out of action at Oakwell in the first half yesterday.

'Defending set pieces` from AbelBFC, suggesting that we should leave two or three players up the field to help us win the ball from a clearance. Quite right, it`s no good just expecting DJ Campbell to fight for it against two defenders - give him some help!
