Blackpool's home heartache

Statistics don't often tell the whole story. But with eight defeats at home already this season, Blackpool's current precarious position of 17th place is down to our inability to perform at Bloomfield Road.

Last season we recorded eight wins and just four defeats at home. But this time around our home form has turned full circle. A trip to Bloomfield Road is no longer the daunting task it once was for visiting teams.

This is reflected in our poll with 37 per cent of you reckoning that Pool will win just three more home games this season. If this is the case we will need our away form to remain as good as it has been this season to survive.

27 per cent of you are clearly fed up with the football at Bloomfield Road and see no end to the gloom, predicting that we won't see another Pool win at home at all! I must admit there were times on Saturday when I would have been in that camp.

Wins against Derby and Birmingham and draws against Wolves and Swansea suggests good home performances are within our capabilities. Equally, defeats like the ones against QPR and Watford suggest doom and gloom.

Six home matches left offers us 18 points up for grabs. And with games against Norwich, Plymouth, Southampton and Notingham Forest, teams all below us at present to come, our fate surely lies with how our home form either improves or worsens.

In November we lost three games in succession at home but managed to break that sequence with a win against Charlton at the beginning of December. Let's hope a new month brings a similar outcome when we entertain Burnley on March 3.
