Burgess: hit or miss with fans

Big Ben has his admirers seemingly just as many as his detractors.
However, the facts speak for themselves and he is still Pool's leading scorer so far this term with six goals.

But this doesn't seem to wash with some fans. In our latest poll asking you how much the team will miss BBB now he is out for three months, 38 per cent of you think he will be missed, particularly with the potential partnership with DJ Campbell in the making. The traditional 'big man little man' combination has often worked well in the past and so the thought of Burgess partnering the deadly and lightning quick Campbell would have been Tony Parkes' desire for the rest of the season. Sadly, that won't happen now.

On the other hand 39 per cent of you were obviously not impressed with Burgess' recent form anyway, citing the fact that the Birdman hasn't scored since November. While that is true, it's also fair to say Ben contributes much more than just a goal threat. His physical presence was sorely missed against Gorkss and Stewart last night for starters.

With further bad news on the injury front regarding new signing Krisztian Nemeth today, the youngster has a fractured cheekbone, the need for at least one more striker is paramount. The next five days until the close of the transfer window could be crucial to Blackpool's survival chances this season.
