Pushing Up

A feature of last night's 3-2 victory over Derby was the energy and the decisive forward thinking of our two central midfielders.

Claus Jorgensen and Keith Southern were both excellent last night. Up against Green, Commons and co they stood up to the challenge and pressed forward at every attempt to ensure the team was always a threat going forward.

Southern himself could have scored in the first half, but he failed to connect to Gary Taylor-Fletcher's cross.

But Southern did set up Ben Burgess' goal in the second period. His over-lapping run was found by Alan Gow and Southern slid a perfect ball for Burgess to bundle in.

Is it me or is that the first time all season our midfield has really harried the opposition and played so high up the pitch?

This was especially noticeable in the first half. Southern and Jorgensen were playing well inside the Derby half. And even when the visitors had the ball Claus and Keith hussled and harried to win the ball back. This was the catalyst for an excellent, attack-minded performance.

Let's hope the boys are as hungry on Saturday when Crystal Palace visit Bloomfield Road. The Eagles will surely be hurting from last night's last gasp defeat at Birmingham.

A big well done to the Seasiders for finally scoring more than once in a game this season. Keep those goals flying in please!
