Vaughan versus Wellens

This week's Vital poll paired up David Vaughan with Doncaster's Richie Wellens ahead of the game at the Keepmoat this weekend.

Your votes reflect just what a good start Vaughan has made to his Blackpool career, with 70% of you preferring Vaughan over Wellens.

Our dear friend Richie made more than 200 appearances for the Tangerines spanning five years at the club.

Richie was a character. It seems you either love him or loathe him. No-one can doubt his ability but he left the club in difficult circumstances. A falling out with then manager Colin Hendry could have prompted Wellens to depart, along with several other reasons no doubt.

One could only feel sorry for Richie as Pool beat his new side Oldham in the League One play-offs on the way to Wembley glory and a place in the Championship.

But now Richie has his chance in the big time so to speak and he's already scored a rocket against Coventry this season.

However, most Pool fans would rather have our Welsh international over Wellens in the midfield. Vaughan has shown he has great touch; a calmness and composure so often lacking in the past for Pool.

One thing is for sure, Wellens and Doncaster will be fired up on Saturday. A six game losing streak means this is surely a must win game for Donny. Not that it will worry Simon Grayson too much.
