Andrew Barrowman joined Blackpool briefly at the start of the 2004-5 season on a loan deal from Birmingham City. A highly rated youngster Barrowman had spent 4 years as a schoolboy with Glasgow Rangers before moving to the second city in August 2003. He made his debut during a loan spell with Crewe, where he netted a goal in 4 appearances in late 2003, and then made a solitary appearance for Birmingham City before the close of the 2003-4 season.
To say that his time at the seaside was somewhat unimpressive would be extremely kind to Mr Barrowman. Two uneventful substitute appearances - against Sheffield Wednesday (1-2) and Stockport (0-4)were all we saw of him in August 2004, and, unhappy at not getting a starting berth, he duly walked out on the club weeks into a three month loan deal!
Ironically for a player who gave the impression that he was above League One football his next loan move was to League Two outfit Mansfield Town where he made 3 appearances in the spring of 2005.
Unable to make the grade at Birmingham Barrowman was sold to near neighbours Walsall in January 2006, and made his debut in Paul Merson's final game in charge - a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Brentford. To make matters worse Barrowman actually gave away a penalty with the score at 4-0, with what observers noted was a 'bizarre handball'!
In the summer of 2006 Barrowman left Walsall, after netting a solitary goal in 13 appearances, and joined Kilmarnock on a one year deal. After initially struggling to break into the first team Barrowman was loaned out to Queen of the South, which eventually became a permanent move in February 2007.
After failing to hit the heights at Queen of the South (1 goal in 24 games), Barrowman joined Ross County in August 2007, and here his career finally took off. His form during the 2007-8 season was amazing with Barrowman netting a total of 29 goals, 24 of which were in the League as Ross won the Second Division Championship.
Keen to capitalise on his new found success Barrowman moved to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in June 2008 on a three year deal, the 23 year old's tenth club in five years! The question we now ask is will Andrew Barrowman be destined to be a one season wonder or is he finally realising the talent that a number of clubs, Blackpool included, sadly never witnessed?
