'If It's Football, It's Vital'

New season begins

Just 12 days into July and Blackpool begin in earnest their 2008/09 campaign with the now annual friendly fixture at Fleetwood.

The Tangerines swept aside their non-league opponents in last season's game by three goals to nil with Taylor-Fletcher, Burgess and Parker the scorers.

But tomorrow's game promises to be much tougher after Fleetwood enjoyed a sparkling year winning promotion to the Blue Square North division, just one league below the Blue Square Premier, formerly the Conference.

Simon Grayson is expected to blood a couple of unknown trialists. New signings Marlon Broomes, Matty Gilks and Alex John-Baptiste may make their Seasiders' debuts at some stage tomorrow afternoon.

Our fishy opponents have already played one friendly. They beat Freckleton 4-1 earlier this week. Town will include ex-Seasider Jamie Milligan who has played more than 100 times for the club. Former Morecambe midfielder Kieran Walmsley could also line-up for the home side.

Kick-off at Highbury is 3pm and supporters can pay on the gate.

So dust down those Tangerine tops and get ready for another roller coaster ride as the new season begins.
