Doolan Named As Brabin's Assistant At Southport

Former Seasider John Doolan has been appointed to the role of full-time player-assistant manager at Blue Square North side Southport.

34-year-old Doolan left Rochdale last month to take up a player-coach role at Haig Avenue. He made a total of 499 league appearances in a 16 year career that included games for Mansfield, Barnet, Doncaster, Blackpool and finally Rochdale, for whom he signed off with an appearance in last season's League Two play-off final loss to Stockport.

'John will add a great deal on the pitch and off it. He has plenty of contacts,' said manager Gary Brabin.

All at Blackpool Vital wish the Sandgrounders new management team the very best for the season ahead, especially in their local derbies with high flying Fleetwood Town.
