South Stand Protest
Flyers were handed out before the game (I didn`t grab one myself, if you know who handed them out comment below) stating that fans should clap, applaud and sing the players off the pitch. Once the players had left the pitch fans should remain in their seats and sing 'Oyston Out`, 'Oyston build the south` etc towards the executive seats in the West Stand. With enough fans stewards wouldn`t be able to move on the protesters allowing them to get their views across.
Around 250 fans stayed behind, all from block A and B in the North Kop. For 5-10 minuets the fans sang and then some made a run around towards the West Stand. At this point stewards stepped in stopping the fans running round to the executive box, they didn`t even get past the North-West corner.
Fans run round to the West Stand
Unknown to the fans who stayed behind Oyston was probably in the boardroom celebrating the win, but these protest seem to be growing in strength. Some fans are against Oyston involvement in the club while some only have issues with the lack of progress on the building front.
I can`t complain about the progress on the pitch, but I attribute that success to investment from Belokon and the great work from Simon Grayson. I do agree that the lack of work on the South is unacceptable and the excuses of it not being financially viable for a temporary stand at least a kop out.
If the protest are to continue staying behind in the ground for 10 minuets isn`t going to have much effect, all it`s going to achieve is annoying the stewards. If fans want to get the attention of Oyston then need to hit him in the pocket, don`t buy beer, pies, programmers, stay behind for an hour then he`ll have to pay overtime to the stewards??
Full support to the fans and I applaud on the effort but singing some songs while Oyston is having a beer with the away directors isn`t going to make an impact.
