'If It's Football, It's Vital'

So long Scott

Amid all the euphoria on deadline day over Paul Dickov`s arrival it seems we forgot to say farewell to another striker.
Scott Vernon linked up with Colchester, after previously spending a loan period with the U`s two years ago.

Vernon`s record at Blackpool - 22 goals in over 80 appearances - at first glance appears very ordinary. However you must consider that a large proportion of Scott`s appearances will have been no more than 15 minutes off the bench. Taking this into account I reckon Scott`s stats stack up rather well.

Last season, despite not being a regular, Vernon finished up on 14 goals. One stand out memory for me was hid quick fire brace against Doncaster at home at the end of December 2006. With 15 minutes left and the scores level Super Scottie entered the fray and proceeded to bag a brace as Pool won 3-0. Surely that sums up Scott`s stay at the Seaside - not much of a chance to impress, but he still did.

It appears my support for Scott has been echoed in our recent poll in which we asked you whether you are sad to see Vernon leave. 61% of you said you were sad. That confirms my feelings. Scott is a good young player who has probably yet to fulfil his potential. Perhaps down at Colchester will be the place for Scott to kick start his career, where, ironically, he scored twice for the Seasiders last December in an easy win.

It looks as though Vernon will be playing his football in League 1 next term unless Colchester can go on a miraculous run of form pretty soon. League 1 should certainly provide Scott with a great chance of scoring lots more goals and improving his game. All the best Scottie and thanks for the goal against the Nobbers on Tuesday!

Well from what I've seen so far he has been very impressive, some people even comparing him to the way Wayne Rooney plays!!!!!

Sounds like a bit of a Jermaine Defoe when he was at Spurs then?

Good one! :)

"League 1 should certainly provide Scott with a great chance of scoring lots more goals and improving his game." Yes, but the lads are really on the up now. If we win our game in hand, we'll stay up! Good article.

A great servent to this club, should do really well with any Club without dooming U's to div 1, I believe this division may be to much for Scott (hope I am wrong) and a fresh start may be just whats needed, Goodbye and thanks...

We (Blackpool) should never have let Scotty V go. He WILL do well For the U's. He never really got a chance at the Pool. I also think, following on from their GREAT win against the nobbers the U's will stay up and Scotty V will bag a few goals in the run in. Scunny, Nobbers and Wednesday/Leicester to go down !

I have to agree, Crossy. I was very disappointed to see Scotty sold, especially after his recent form and finally getting back into the first team. Rather disappointing and he could have been a valuable asset 'till the end of the season - especially considering Morrell isn't doing much when being brought on late in the day! Dickov, McPhee, Vernon, Burgess would have been a good match-day line-up for the strikers (2 on, 2 benched) but alas, it will never be. Good luck Scotty, a truly nice bloke who deserves every success - especially as he just got his head down and played to get back into the team! Model professional!

Great comments; he showed a great desire to join the team here, driving down to the U's club with a few hours to go before the deadline came in! He said he was flattered by our interest and offer of of girst-team football; he also knows the club, says he wouldn't have come back if he didn't think we could stay up and looks a snip at just 100,000! Hope we do stay up, based on what you've said; still one third of the season to go!

gutted he went. would rather have SV than KP anyday. :(

Thankfully though that is not an option!
