What a difference a year makes. Another year another league and I'm pleased to say that for both clubs it's a higher league then when we last travelled to Brizzle.
City are certainly the surprise package in the league this year. Scraping past the Pool on the last day of the season who could have predicted their heady position almost 2/3 of the way through the season.
How to get there
From the North - M55, M6 South to J8 then on to the M5. Take the M5 to junction 16, then the A38 sign posted Patchway Bristol, keep going until you see signs for Taunton (A38), on this road you will cross the River Avon, take a left into Winterstoke Road, and then take another left into Marsh Road, then a right into Ashton Gate. Street parking is available.
For the Virgin Lovers amongst us - The nearest railway station is Parson Street which is around a ten minute walk away from the ground. Bristol Temple Meads is the mainline station, and two miles from the ground.
Whats the ground like?
Allocation is in the Micra Wedlock Stand, which is shared with home supporters. Around 2,800 away supporters can be accommodated in this area. Despite this game being re-arranged from a midweek match the numbers travelling will be around the 900-1100 mark. Ashton Gate holds over 21000, perhaps that just shows us the difference between the 2 clubs.
Where to drink
Plenty of places to drink, by train apparently there's a hassle free Wetherspoons less than 5mins from the station. Nearer the ground - The Robin, a pub where both home and away fans drink. A lot of away fans tend to drink by the 'waterfront', mainly frequenting the Pumphouse and the Nova Scotia. Plenty of choice outside, however no ale on sale inside.
Plod & Stewards
Stewards are a bit picky over fans standing but I`d expect a low key approach by both come Saturday.
Fear factor rating - 5
Last season this game saw Pool thump 4 and secure our first away win of the season. What would we give for a result like that this year? Bristol are in the running for back to back promotions I've no doubt a lot of Pool fans will be wondering why them and not us. The reverse fixture earlier this season saw Brizzle gain a point despite being second best for most of the game. Whoever sang money can't buy you love should have added the line, yes but it can buy you some quality players.
