Bishop to Bloomfield?

Pool boss Simon Grayson was understood to have made a substantial offer for the former York City man in the now shut transfer window. A bid of over £100,000 was allegedly offered for the services of Bishop. Bury turned this down, and have since renewed their efforts in trying to keep their prolific marksman.

Bishop was Bury's top scorer last season, finishing with 20 goals in a fairly average League 2 side. The striker has already hit the back of the net three times this term, prompting Pool to make a move. However, since our bid was rejected Bishop has been offered new, improved terms to stay on at Gigg Lane. If Bishop signs on, he would become the highest earner at Bury. This clearly shows how highly the Bury hierachy rate the youngster. Boss Chris Casper told Bury's official website, 'Andy signing will be a great boost for us. It's no secret that he would go for nothing in the summer' (hence Bury wanting to sign Bishop up in order not to lose out).

So it seems as though Simon will have to move onto a fresh target, if, as expected, Bishop committs his future to Bury. But would the striker have been good enough to cut it at Championship level anyway? We may never know. It is interesting to note that Bury do have a reputation of blooding young players who have gone onto bigger and better things, ex and current nobbers Nugent and Whaley being the prime examples. Expect some movement on the transfer scene at Bloomfield Road in the lead up to the massive derby on Saturday, with Andy Wilkinson predicted to sign on loan, with a view to a permanent move to Pool in January.
