'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wilkinson contemplates 'Pool switch

The versatile defender featured in Blackpool's unbeaten run last season while on loan from Stoke City when he deputised at left back.

Blackpool boss Simon Grayson is a keen admirer of the youngster and put in several bids for him towards the end of the summer transfer window - reportedly reaching the 250k mark.

On the bids, Wilko told a local newspaper;

'Things are in the hands of the clubs. I am flattered by Blackpool's interest, especially as I believe they have had four or five offers turned down.'

'The price Stoke want for me is quite surprising and flattering. I am a Stoke fan, so it is my dream to play for them every week. But I really need to be playing regularly to further my career.'

Following on from the long-term injury to on-loan right back Stephen Wright, chances were that 'Wilko' would have to stay at Stoke and fulfill his duties as a backup for the first team. However, with the signing of Gabriel Zakuani before the transfer deadline, Manager Tony Pulis may be prepared to let the youngster leave when the loan window opens.

On the matter, he said:

'We have brought Gabriel Zakuani in, which makes us a bit stronger in that area, so we will look at the situation.'

It is no surprise that Larry is keen to bring Wilko to the Seaside and this comes as a boost to the gaffer. We could very well see Andy Wilkinson donning the Tangerine and White of Blackpool very soon...

He'd complete our defence for me, even if £250,000 isa bit much.
