So that's the first three games over with.
Two of those games, were against possibly a couple of the strongest teams in the league. Wolves are strongly tipped for outright promotion and are currently favourites to go up; Leicester will be there or thereabouts.
The results?
Well in my opinion, we should, today, be sat joint top with Coventry!
We did nothing wrong in ANY of those games. Even Mick McCarthy was quoted as saying 'WE GOT AWAY WITH MURDER, I CAN'T THINK OF ONE THING WE DID BETTER THAN THEM - EXCEPT PUTTING THE BALL IN THE BACK OF THE NET' when Wolves stole the game from us.
OR did we give it to them?
The common denominator between the three teams we have played so far is one of money. They have all bought decent strikers; goal poachers; 20 + goals a season men.
This is what, in my opinion, our team is crying out for. On Saturday, if Foxy had scored the gift, shortly after our first, then we would have thoroughly deserved the win, as I have no doubt, had that gone in, we would have buried them. Instead he fluffed it big time. A natural goal scorer would have eaten that chance for breakfast. (Don`t get me started on KP`s effort).
I don't think Andy Morrell can give anymore than he has done. He needs a break or some support. When Parker came on against Bristol City he made a difference. When he came on against Wolves he didn't appear to try. In my opinion, and many sat near to me, he looked like he was sulking. He will test Simon Grayson's managerial skills to the max this season, if he stays (but that`s another story).
Big Ben? Doesn't do it for me, yet looking at some of the Wolves boards they thought he had a great game!! (Funny how people can watch exactly the same thing, yet see something completely different).
Also, looking at the two stadiums we have visited so far, we have to find a major investor. Bloomfield Road, as historic a site as anywhere, is no-where near good enough. It's actually a disgrace. Where that money comes from is anybodies guess. I don't think there is enough money in this town to support the club. As far as I can tell there is no large company, other than First Leisure, that has invested in Blackpool.
It did cross my mind that a new stadium, with proper conferencing facilities, the ability to be able to host rock and pop concerts and perhaps boxing matches and darts finals, incorporating a casino and other leisure suits on a new site, could bring a new interest to the town. No doubt it would opposed by the Council though.
Seriously though, it would appear that any money invested in the club (and now would be exactly the right time to do it), must come from elsewhere. Does that mean Latvia? Well, if it does, so be it. However things seem to have gone VERY quiet on that front.
If we manage to stay up with what we have got, then next season needs a big change in thinking at the club, financially.
Personally I think, with a decent striker and maybe a midfielder as well, we could well be pushing the play offs come May next year, definitely top 10, if we continue to play as we have done and there is really no reason why we shouldn`t.
So come on investors, take a good luck, we are up and coming and you may have a nice return on your cash!
