Kaspars!

Simon Grayson has today agreed a deal for the Latvian international defender Kaspars Gorkss.

The 25-year-old who has agreed a contract until June 2008 with an option for a further year is expected to complete his move on 1st January following the expiry of his current contract with Latvian Champions FK Ventspils.

At home in the centre of defence or at left back Gorkss was a key member of the Ventspils squad who won the Latvian Premier Division for the first time in their making over 30 appearances in all competitions including two UEFA Cup games against Newcastle United. The 6' 3' defender also netted five goals.

He is also a full Latvian international and has been capped three times for his country including a second half substitute appearance against Northern Ireland in October.

After the Latvian season only finished recently, Kaspars should be fully fit and raring to go cum the start of January, and could figure on New Years Day away at Chesterfield.

Good to see us sign a defender with a physical presence and an eye for a goal! Well done Simon!
