'If It's Football, It's Vital'

World Cup Diary - Day 4

With having no ticket for the match the second best place to catch the match was on the big screen in the middle of the river Main. With thousands of other fans without tickets I predicted that the Fan Zone would be packed, and it was. After a morning in the main square again I parted company with the rest of my group who were fortunate to have tickets to the game.

I arrived at the Fan Zone at 10:30 to be greeted by around a thousand fans queuing for the Fan Zone, the queue soon grew to three thousand by 11:30 when the gates were opened. The Fan Zone held around seven thousand fans so it was a bit of a rush to get in. With strict rules on the gate nobody was allowed drinks into the area, this resulted in a mass passing of beer to the back of the queue.

Once in I met up with some mates from University who had made the trip by car and we got prime seats in the middle of the biggest temporary stand.

Unfortunate the German authorities had't planned for England fans drinking abilities and which meant for an hour wait for beer. And with the temperature rising the atmosphere which was electric before the game was also rising and with an early goal in the game the atmosphere was off the scale by the river.

As the game died due to heat exhaustion so did the England fans by the river. But with all the points in the bag everybody was happy and returned to the main square for the celebrations to take place.

The party went long into the night with it all being in great spirit, but for some it had been too long of a day.

Great reporting Mr Tangerine. Seems like you had a great time over there. Dead envious!
